MowDaddy: Install A Mist Cooling System
Follow MowDaddy on Twitter

You're standing inside looking out into your back yard, and you're thinking, "Man! It would be nice to go out on the patio and do something." But you don't. Why??? Because it's just so freaking hot out there! What would it take to get you to go outside? How about if it was ten to twenty degrees cooler? Would that entice you to get outta the house and do something fun?

Well, now you can. And you can do it yourself. Why not add a backyard patio misting system?

A mist cooling system works by squirting a very fine mist into the air around an area you want to cool. Cooling occurs as the fine mist evaporates, cooling the air. A mist system creates a curtain of mist around a cooling area or zone, and can reduce temperatures by as much as 30 degrees F depending on the efficiency of the misting system. Of course relative humidity, and outdoor temperature are important factors that affect the amount of cooling that can be achieved as well. Mist cooling systems allow the use and enjoyment of outdoor living areas that normally would not be used when temperatures begin to rise. Sophisticated systems can be created by adding more cooling areas or zones.

And you can do it yourself.

There are several kits available from different vendors and stores. Here's one through Amazon. Fresh Fog Electric Powered Outdoor Cooling Misting System Kit it's fairly easy to setup and operate, and comes with a high pressure pump, tubing and fittings.

The one I really like is a system that you can simply hook up to your outdoor faucet. It is from MistyMate. They have several different systems available so you can tailor one to your needs. They have a high pressure pump to add to your system should you need one. I found that I can get by without the pump, but if I finally do set up the system I really want, I'll need to get the pump because I would be cooling a much larger area along with a short sidewalk.
